Although A-TECK Surveys Ltd has only been operational since early 2023, our two Director's have worked on all manner of schemes since they entered the profession in 1997, building up knowledge and experience in all aspects of the role. Take a look at some of the sites they have been involved with.
The Mersey Gateway Bridge is a major civil engineering project that spans the River Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal in the northwest of England. Opened to traffic in October 2017, it provides a critical link between Runcorn and Widnes, relieving congestion on the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge and supporting regional economic growth.
We successfully completed pre-surveys of the existing area and established a robust control network. Our work encompassed all facets of monitoring and engineering, including setting out for sheet piling and cofferdam works, conducting verticality checks for the viaduct columns, main towers and tower cranes, and precisely positioning beams, bearing plates, delta frames, and other structural elements on both the main crossing bridge and also the two connecting viaducts north and south of the River Mersey. A full as built survey was also conducted between engineering works and handed over at the completion of the project.
Our Directors have been extensively involved in various aspects of smart motorway projects, serving as drainage consultants and senior site engineers. Collaborating with trades and contractors, we have prioritized reducing accident risks and mitigating potential hazards throughout these projects.
We have contributed to major motorway schemes, including:
Our drainage-related responsibilities have included:
Our earthworks expertise has encompassed:
In 1999, our Director worked as a setting-out engineer on the construction of Manchester Airport’s second runway, collaborating with a prominent local company heavily involved in the project. His responsibilities included using a combination of GPS technology and precise leveling instruments to establish the lines and levels for various critical components of the runway. This work encompassed setting out the sub-base, the rips for the PQ (pavement quality) concrete base, and the final surfacing levels for both the runway and the surrounding taxiways.
The same meticulous methodology was applied to creating accurate "as-built" records at each stage of the construction process, ensuring the project's compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
The Heysham land survey works were conducted to support infrastructure, development, and maintenance projects in the Heysham area. Covering an approximate area of 28km square, this was a large scale survey that required the incorporation of multiple methods to conduct the required survey in both an accurate and time sufficient manner. This survey provided essential geospatial data and insights for the planning, design, and the construction activities for the new highway.
We have experience via this scheme of performing water flow checks for drainage as it is vital to ensure proper functionality, prevent flooding, and maintain an efficient drainage systems.
As part of this process, comprehensive chamber inspections were carried out, which includes:
In addition to chambers, CSO’s, outfalls, bifurcations and pump houses were measured, analysed and recorded.
This thorough approach ensures that the drainage systems operates effectively and meets required standards.
We have experience in setting-out work for relaying surfaces with precise levels, including tasks such as PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) light installation, line marking, and drainage system implementation. Our experience spans numerous major airports, including Manchester, Luton, Bristol, Edinburgh, Southend, Dublin and also numerous military bases where we have consistently delivered accuracy and quality in airfield construction and maintenance projects.
The Stafford Western Access Route scheme was a £63million, multi-disciplinary, 1.2km strategic link scheme, that connects the A34 Foregate Street (north of Stafford) with A518 Newport Road (west of Stafford).
The scheme has boosted growth in the region and eased congestion, enables millions of pounds worth of new housing and business development, as well as improved traffic flow in the town centre.
At A-TECK Surveys, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional engineering solutions. Below is a summary of the tasks completed and experience gained on the (SWAR) engineering project:
Our team has played a pivotal role in the setting out of housing developments for many of the UK's leading house builders, ensuring precision and efficiency at every stage of construction. Our responsibilities in these projects have included:
We have worked closely with developers, contractors, and other trades to streamline workflows and maintain project timelines. Our expertise in interpreting and implementing complex designs has consistently contributed to the successful delivery of high-quality housing developments.
As engineers working on Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW), our expertise spans a wide range of specialized skills, enabling us to deliver high-end engineering solutions. Our experience includes the surveying and setting out of critical infrastructure components necessary for the efficient operation of WWTWs.
Our work has encompassed the integration of Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) slabs, known for their enhanced durability and crack resistance, ensuring the long-term stability of treatment tanks, basins, and other key structures. We have also successfully implemented ductile iron pipework for both gravity and pressurized systems, offering superior strength, flexibility, and corrosion resistance—critical for the safe and reliable transport of wastewater throughout the facility.
As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions, our team has experience in the meticulous setting out of coring operations. This process is integral to our tunnelling and construction projects, ensuring precision and reliability in our work.
Key Aspects of Our Setting Out Coring Process:
Our expertise in setting out coring is a testament to our dedication to excellence in engineering and construction. We strive to deliver results that meet and exceed our clients' expectations, ensuring the successful completion of every project.
